WE ARE ARISING THE MISSING LINK OF MANKIND HISTORIES
Divided we fall, together we stand.
Advocating for these crimes to be clearly identified as a holocaust and demanding both
sanctions and reparations; he is the workhorse of the CCSSA.
But, to succeed in such a fight, the CCSSA needs the international solidarity of associations
but also of states and people of good faith.
This is why, the CCSSA carries out these media campaigns on television and radio sets in
order to inform and sensitize the South African public on these Congolese dramas.
JOE YVES SALANKANG
The Congolese civil society of South Africa always require reparation and second independence of D.R.Congo ,justice on all the crimes since 1885.
The situation in the Congo demands international solidarity. For several years now, the
CCSSA has been campaigning for the recognition and naming of the series of silent holocaust
that the Congo has suffered since the days of Leopold II.
10 million Congolese people perished during the exploitation of Congo rubber by Leopold II
to support the growth of the automobile industry, the manufacture of tires of which required
enormous quantities of rubber. Inhuman treatment has been reserved for the Congolese who,
against their will, kidnapped to serve the interests of Western capitalism.
Then, Congolese were exposed to uranium by Belgium and the USA during the extraction
and the loading of this very radioactive ores and which was to be used for the realization of
the mythical Manhattan Project where the first atomic bomb was manufactured. These
irradiated miners in their turn contaminated their families as well as their surroundings and
the consequences are incalculable in the surroundings of the mine of Shinkolobwe but also
everywhere where they went to Congo.
And currently, around 10 million Congolese have lost their lives and still continue to be
killed in armed conflicts provoked and supported by the electronics industry which needs to
maliciously withdraw from the Congo coltan, an essential mineral in the manufacture of
electronic devices. And the Congo alone represents, in the Kivu area, more than 50% of the
world's coltan reserve. This is the reason for the age-old instability in this region.
After the 2018’s elections and the advent of a new head of state at the head of the DRC, many
quickly concluded that the violence in the east of the Congo would end and that there would
be a radical change in the social life of Congolese.
As a whistleblower, the CCSSA reacted quickly and wanted from the beginning of 2019 to
alert the public not to lower their guard because, the next 5 years could just usher in a
difficult period which would be made of political crises and armed violence more scattered
and entering the south of the country.
This is how a special CCSSA panel co-hosted with the African Youth Congress (AYC) and
Prof. Gareth Eriksen of stellenbosch university presented to the audience gathered in
Tshisimani center the real issues of instability and violence in the DRC.
Under the theme "Mineral, military weapons and violence in DRC", the panelists explained
to the public how the cobalt race will accentuate the cycle of violence and widen it to the
great Katanga where more than 60% of the world reserve is concentrated.
This precious mineral is essential in the military industry, especially in the manufacture of
heavy weapons. But also in medical imagery, aeronautics and even more in the new
revolution in the automotive industry where, to make the switch to electric vehicles, this
industry requires cobalt, an essential element in the manufacture of batteries.
As in the past, all races for the control of sources of supply have been made to the detriment
of indigenous populations through wars, support for armed groups, violation of human rights
and other forms of violence.
But the cobalt hunt brings together the divergent interests of several industries, at a time
when the Congo, for its economic survival, also needs to control the exploitation and sale of
this strategic mineral.
Preparing public opinion to anticipate the harmful consequences of this confrontation for the
Congolese people was the objective of this evening of discussion and debate.
D.R.CONGO is a country where politic engine is in the driving power of naturals resources.
